Could donor #2065 be my father? He was an Eagle Scout who had passed calculus and spoke some Mandarin. I was determined to meet him.

Donor Egg Bank USA was the first fertility practice to send vitrified eggs to other clinics successfully. As soon as doctors started using vitrification, the success rate for pregnancies and births from donated eggs increased dramatically.

[For our clients], it’s much more about who is this person, not just what is this person.

Hundreds of thousands of egg retrievals are performed around the world yearly. The new technique of ‘vitrification’ has made avenues of assisted reproduction safer, cheaper, more efficient, and easier to access.

Dear Sperm Donor 14659, Happy Father’s Day, and thank you…with your generous genetic composition, I gave birth to a healthy, smart, beautiful and hilariously tenacious little angel who is curious about the world.

Finding an egg donor is a challenge in Canada. For those of South Asian descent, it's even harder.

California Cryobank has been at the forefront of LGBTQ+ family formation for decades, embracing our community before others in assisted reproductive technology were ready to step up.

A path to parenthood for gay couples like Luis and me is a reality and a social need. Curiously, when we explained that we wanted to be parents of a baby born with our genes, everyone asked why we did not adopt.

At the time, I wasn’t in a relationship. I thought, ‘What would it look like if I had kids on my own?’ That felt a little bit scary, but there wasn’t a huge reason to wait.

We often will do egg freezing before someone starts chemotherapy, because chemotherapy can wipe out and affect the quality of their eggs down the road…it’s almost like insurance backup plan.

In the United States, egg sales are not taxed because they are part of medical treatment. It should be the same in Canada.

After the births of my babies in the ’70s, the umbilical cord was trashed. But these days the blood inside can be preserved in a bank. It contains stem cells with the potential to save the lives of patients with leukemia, lymphoma or sickle cell disease.

A technique using umbilical cord blood stem cells could be a promising new approach for repair of cleft palate in infants.

The trial’s first phase showed promising results for the children with autism who participated in the study. About 70% of the children improved getting their own cord blood.

We're going to inject stem cells into the right ventricle [of the heart]. The hope is that this will delay or even prevent heart failure in this subset of patients.

The goal was to see whether a transfusion of their own umbilical cord blood stem cells could help treat their autism. The results were impressive: more than two-thirds of the children showed reported improvements.

The improvement in the heart’s ability to pump blood was also four times greater in the stem cell patients, in comparison with the control group, after 12 months.
